Subicwater is conducting
a substantial inspection on their pipeline systems in order to reduce non-revenue
water. This Mancom “Sweeping” activity takes place once a month
where the members of the management team, from Supervisors to General Manager
together with Cascal’s Resident Representative Graham J. Fairclough,
well check on leaks, water theft and other problems concerning the service
connections and water supply. The inspection is being carried out in the
middle of the night when water pressure is high and leaks are more visible.
Since the end of January the properties in the whole area of Barangays West Bajac-Bajac, East Bajac-Bajac and New Kalalake have been saturated, about 198 leaks were detected ranging from gate valve leaks, meter stand leaks and service line leaks. There were about 17 potential violations or water theft cases that are now being investigated.
The overall objective is to detect the leaks and reduce them, as these have been the largest contributor to company losses. This has been widely appreciated by the local community as local barangay officials have offered support during these risky activities.
It
is Subicwater’s philosophy that their management officials and employees
should not just be desk workers but they should also be familiar with the
nature of the water distribution system in the franchise area. Such would
enable them to formulate better policies and strategies in order to improve
the level of customer service. This activity gives them the opportunity
to experience what is happening in the field and the problems that customers
face first hand. Subicwater has found that this approach enhances customer
service and ensures that they provide a class service.
