Within the Subic Bay Freeport Zone waste water from homes, offices and industrial areas is collected in sewer pipes and conveyed to sewage treatment plants (STP's) where it is treated prior to discharge to watercourses adjacent to the treatment plants. Routine testing of sewage effluent is carried out to ensure its suitability for discharge. In addition weekly testing of seawater at various locations within the Subic Bay area is undertaken to ensure that the discharge does not adversely affect the environment.
In those areas inside the Subic Bay Freeport without STP's solids in the wastewater are trapped in septic tanks before the liquid waste is discharged through sea outfalls to Subic Bay. There is currently no sewage collection and treatment system in place in Olongapo City.
Longer term plans of Subicwater include the construction of collection systems and STP's to handle all wastewater from SBMA and Olongapo City.
